About Dr Monisha Devi Goswami

 Monisha Devi Goswami, the Founder Director of Nupur Cultural Academy is a Bharatanatyam and Sattriya Dance Exponent and Vocalist from Guwahati, Assam. She holds MA in History from Guwahati University, Bharatanatyam from Tamil University & has acquired Doctorate from Guwahati University. Her research topic ‘‘Impact of Traditional Dances on Sattriya with Special Reference to the Ojapali, Deodhani and Devadasi Dances" has been published in Guwahati Journal. 

Dr. Monisha Devi Goswami is also an advocate of Guwahati High Court. In addition, she is holds Visharad in Kathak & Bharathnatyam from Bhatkhande Sangit Vidyapith Lucknow, Diploma in Hindustani Vocal from the Puspanjali Cultural Academy Guwahati and a Gayan Gunun (Nipun) from the Sangeet Sattra, Guwahati. 

She started her Sattriya dance carrier under Guru Late Badan Chandra Kalita at the age of 7 and presently she is having her advanced training on Sattriya Dance under Padmashree Nrityacharya Shri Jatin Goswami, Abhinaya from Sri Jayant Kastuar of Delhi and also learning advanced Bharata Natyam under Guru Lalitha Ganapati and Mridangam under Guru K. Venkata Subramaniam of Chennai. 

Thus she has shown her keen interest in the field of classical dance and music from an early age. She obtained the first prize at Inter School Bargeet Competition along with a few prizes at different Bargeet Competitions at Guwahati and she was a regular artist of Chemoniar Chora of All India Radio, Guwahati from1990 to 1993. 

Dr. Monisha Devi Goswami established the Nupur Cultural Academy at Guwahati in 1993 at Mangaldoi & later in 1995 at Darrang two different provinces in Assam. Presently there are four branches of Nupur Cultural Academy. 


Dr Monisha Devi Goswami has also authored a book 'Bharathnatyam for Beginners", Its second edition is already on sale. Her paper "Recognition of Sattriya Dance as a Major Classical Dance Contribution of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika" was presented at the National Seminar and was published in the Gauhati University Journal in 2013. As a resource person, she presented an audio-visual performance on the subject "Traditional Dance and the Sattriya Dance" at Gauhati University in 2012. 

Dr. Monisha Devi had choreographed in the Assamese film "Bisphoran" released in2001. As an artist, she has a few paintings to her credit.

 In respect to her dancing carrier, she performed, Bharatnatyam in the International Trade Fair at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi;  Classical Dance Festival at Mangaldoi in 1998 and 2000; Classical Dance Festival at Rabindra Bhawan, Guwahat in 2004, 2006; Sattriya Dance at Sanskritik Mahotsava of N.E. States at Kamalabari, Majuli in 1996; Basanta Utsav at Basistha; at Classical Dance Festival at Rabindra Bhawan, Guwahati in 2011, 2012 and 2013 and Doordarshan Kendra, Guwahat in 1997.

Further, she is also trained in the artistry of Terracotta, & Ojapali. Along side she also works on the concept "Preservation of North-East India's Culture" as she was inspired from the seminar conducted by the Guwahati University.
